Gavin Grimm Youth Courage Award
Deadline for 2018 Gavin Grimm Youth Courage Award Nominations – April 15, 2018.
Who is Gavin Grimm?
Gavin Grimm was a Side by Side youth who fought for the rights of trans students to access the bathroom that aligns with their identity in his home town of Gloucester, Virginia. Gavin's case made it all the way to the Supreme Court, opening up a national dialogue about transgender individuals, particularly transgender youth's access to bathrooms, public spaces, and fight to have their gender respected by our schools and government institutions.
What is the Gavin Grimm Youth Courage Award?
In 2017, Side by Side wanted to honor not only Gavin’s courage, but the courage of Side by Side youth who strive to make a difference in their communities. The award, given to one youth (ages 11-20) each year, recognizes the leadership, strength, wisdom, and amazing work of LGBTQ+ youth advocates. The award comes with a $500 honorarium to support the youth and their work. The recipient of this award must be a current youth of Side by Side involved in one of our programs.
How do I nominate myself or others?
