One of the easiest ways to support our youth is to provide a meal for one of our weekly groups. Because our groups meet in the evening, they often overlap with typical dinner hours. Side by Side's Meals Program is a way to ensure youth will have access to a healthy meal when they come to Side by Side. Sharing a meal also offers youth the opportunity to socialize over a meal, which can build community and a sense of belonging. Extra food is packaged up and sent home with youth who need it. Community donated meals show Side by Side youth that there are people in the community who love, value, and support them.
If you’re into cooking, or want a simple way to donate, consider providing a meal for one of our groups. It involves bringing food for 20 youth and dropping it off at the youth center between between 5:00 - 6:00 on a designated evening.
We ask that you avoid peanuts, and provide a substantial vegetarian option/salad – you can go all vegetarian if it’s easier. Past meals provided have included tacos/burritos (with a meat option and beans, plus fixins), pizza, spaghetti, lasagna, chili or soup, and barbecue chicken. Please bring a well-rounded meal. Feel free to reach out to us if you are unsure if a meal you are planning to bring will work. Please plan to bring food and drinks. We provide utensils, but you’re welcome to bring some if you’d like.
You can bring a meal one time, or contribute a meal to one group on a monthly basis.
Thank you to the community partners who currently donate on a recurring basis through our Meals Program:
